Getting ready for tonight's gig ~ drawing Caricatures at a 40th Birthday Party. Using random reference photos I see online to warm up, I drew these Caricatures. Oh yes. I am looking forward to getting to work tonight

Here are a few of the Caricatures that I drew at the Party where my Agent requested that I draw Tamer Caricatures. It actually turned out to be a marvelous group of people ~ much quite ready to have fun. It was a Childrens' Birthday Party ~ with both Children and Grown Ups. They asked me to draw the Children first ~ only drawing the Adults if there is still time after that.

The children were playing ~ running around the house ~ coming back into the Main Party Room for Caricatures, Food, Costume-play to be like (Kiss?) Musicians, Playing Piano, and Drums ~ one of the Very Young Children just blew my mind at how cool he was ~ seemed to be playing the Drums without having had lessons, not formally 'schooled' in 'drum playing', but HE SOUNDED GREAT!

Anyway, I digress. The Children were there for Fun. And the Grown Ups (including a lot of Parents) were comfortably looking on ~ snacking ~ and obviously entertained with the Caricatures that were coming out. And like I said, the more I stretched the boundaries, the better they get. And the more animated the party guests get. They were very open to Exaggeration, but I kept it toned down. Especially at the beginning of the Party. But the guests (and host/hostess) were encouraging me to make funny pictures.

I never quite let it go. I kept a lid on it because my Agent had same 'Tamer'. Awwww..... the people were very happy with my performance, but if they only knew what I Could have done.....

Have you ever noticed that a lot of artists try to manipulate you with a lot of self-aggrandizement (which may hae also won them some awards or positions), but if you actually Look at their pictures, you don't see anything creative? It's a good idea to hire a really Experienced Party Artist. So she can handle each Individual appropriately. Here are some Facepaintings that I created at a Community Event last Christmas. It illustrates just that.

For example, the Very Young Girl who requested the Santa Hat ~ she did not get the exact same treatment as the School-Age Girl who requested the Santa Hat. The Very Young Girl ~ not having expectations about Face Painting yet ~ was amazed with the decoration as is ~ with only a quick Tap of Glitter. Because a very young child might not have been able to sit for the few extra moments that the perfect application would have taken.

And the Boy who wanted to get in on the Frozen fun ~ I had had a run on one request for a Frozen Design after another ~ I had been creating Different Frozen designs on each of the girls. And here you see that I came up with one that felt really cool for a Boy, too.

These are the sort of things that a Very Experienced Party Artist tries to do. Because Your Children are not generic people who can be handled as routinely as if we were home painting on paper. You want an Artist who knows her stuff so well that she can be flexible with whatever happens in the moment.
